2 Timothy 1:1-14

1)      Read 2 Timothy 1:1-14
2)      In verses 3 to 7, Paul refers to people important in Timothy’s journey of faith. First of all, he writes of his mother Eunice and his grandmother Lois, who passed on their faith to Timothy. Share stories of the people who passed the Christian faith to you.
3)      Who are the people you are looking to pass the Christian faith on to? Share joys and difficulties about that task.
4)      The other person important to Timothy is Paul himself, who laid hands on Timothy and encouraged him in his gifts. What gifts do you see in each other?
5)      What fears prevent us from using our gifts? How does verse 7 help?
6)      In verses 8 to 14 Paul speaks of his suffering for the gospel. Have a look at verse 12. Where does he put his faith that he will be able to continue in his calling?
7)      The exact translation of verse 12 is uncertain – NIV has “what I have entrusted to him” while the English Standard Version has “what he has entrusted to me”. In the context of this letter I think this is about the faith that we pass on, and the gifts he has given to us. God entrusts us with gifts and ministries, with the faith we seek to pass on, and with the people we seek to pass it on to. But we can also in turn trust all of those to God – so both translations are right! You might like to share further what members of the group believe has been entrusted to them, plus any challenges they bring – and finish by praying for one another in these areas.
