2 Timothy 3

1)      Read together 2 Timothy 3:14-4:5
2)      In verses 15 to 17, what are the purposes of scripture?
3)      Of all of those, what do you think is the most important and why?
4)      Article 6 of the Church of England Book of Common Prayer says this of scripture:-
“Holy Scripture containeth all things necessary to salvation: so that whatsoever is not read therein, nor may be proved thereby, is not to be required of any man, that it should be believed as an article of the Faith, or be thought requisite or necessary to salvation”. According to 2 Tim 3:15, what is necessary for salvation?
(This means that we should not press upon people our own favourite interpretations of scripture as being necessary to be a ‘proper’ Christian.)
5)      The scriptures here are what we know as the Old Testament. How often do we read or study it? Why do we find it difficult?
6)      How do the scriptures ‘equip for every good work’? Can you think of any examples where the Bible has changed your behaviour?
7)      Share ways or resources that you find helpful in reading the Bible.
