Week Commencing:
12 Jun 2011
Bible Base:
Acts 2, 1 Corinthians

1)      When we talk about the Holy Spirit and about spiritual gifts how does it make you feel? Why?
2)      Read Acts 2:1-7. What did the onlookers think about the disciples? Remember where this was happening and where the disciples were from. What would be the equivalent places today (a) in England (b) in Sheffield?
3)      Now read Acts 2:14-21. How does Peter answer the gibes of verse 7? Look at the list of people who will exercise spiritual gifts in this prophecy. What does this say about what sort of person you have to be to exercise spiritual gifts. You might like also to look at Acts 4 v 13.
4)      Read 1 Corinthians 1:26-27.
5)      What does all of the above have to say about thinking that we are not good enough or clever enough or talented enough to receive spiritual gifts?
6)      Carefully read Acts 8 verses 1 and 4. Who at this point spread the gospel and who didn’t?!
7)      Read 1 Corinthians 12:4-6 and v 11. Who receives gifts of the Spirit? Does everybody have the same gifts?
8)       Read Exodus 35:30-36:1. What does this tell us about gifts of the Spirit?
9)      Read 1 Corinthians 12:12-31. What does this have to tell us about gifts of the Spirit?
10)   We have seen that all Christians have gifts from the Spirit. Some are spectacular; others are practical; some seem very ordinary. Ask each member of the group to write down 2 or 3 gifts they think each other person in the group has, plus the groups they think they have themselves. Then compare notes!
[ There are more gifts than are listed in the New Testament! But you will find lists in 1 Cor 12:7-10 and 27-31; Romans 12:6-8]
