Week beginning September 7. Theme: God the Father; Preacher: Elisabeth Coyne
Reading 1            Matthew 6:25-34
1)      What does Jesus say here about the nature of God the Father, and about our relationship with God as Father? (See also Matt 7:7-11)
2)      What does it mean practically to seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness or justice?
3)      What difference does it make in our lives and attitudes to see God as ‘our’ Father rather than just ‘my’ Father?
Reading 2            Romans 8:14-17
4)      This passage tells us that we are children of God and brothers/sisters of Christ. What can we learn from Jesus’ relationship with the Father about what it means to be a child of God?
General discussion
5)      Some people find the idea of God as Father difficult because of their experience of fathers. How would you help someone like that?
6)      What does the example of God as Father have to say to those of us who are parents? How can we be a better ‘visual aid’ for God the Father?
7)      Share what it means to you to have God as a Father.
8)      Are there any hymns/songs about God as Father which have meant a lot to you?
9)      Are there any insights from your discussion that you would like to share with the rest of the church (either through the preacher or at the 1045 service)?
