Christ the King

1)      Readings  1  John 18:33-37; 1 Samuel 8:10-18; Zechariah 9:9-10

In what ways is Jesus’ kingdom not of this world? How is the kingship of Christ different from that of earthly kings?

2)      Reading 2 Revelation 1:4-8

Identify from this reading what Christ the King has done for us his subjects.

3)      What does it mean to say that Christ ‘has made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father’? You might like to revisit 1 Peter 2:4-11 that we looked at last week. Other passages you could look at are Genesis 1:28.
4)      The book of Revelation was written to encourage the church in a time of great persecution. What encouragements do you get from this passage?
5)      Rev 5:10 says “you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God and they shall reign on the earth”. This could tempt us to seek power in an earthly sense. How does Jesus’ example and teaching show us that that is not what the church should be doing?
6)      So what might “they shall reign on earth” mean?
7)      Share what the idea of Christ as King of Kings and Lord of Lords means to you.
8)      What practical things should follow from Christ being our King?
